United has a non-stop flight from San Francisco to Pittsburgh that leaves at 10:30 p.m. on July 14 (Tues.), and gets into Pittsburgh at 6:05 a.m. on Wed.  This would allow you to take the AMTRAK ($18,
www.amtrak.com, use station codes ALT to PGH to purchase tickets) that leaves Pittsburgh at 7:20 a.m. and stops in Altoona at 9:49 a.m.  To get from Pittsburgh Airport to the AMTRAK station, take the 28X Airport Flyer bus ($2.60 exact change; dollar bills can be used but will not give change).  Get off at  7th Ave. & Smithfield St. and then walk 600 meters east on Liberty Ave. to the AMTRAK station.  The 28x Airport Flyer bus leaves every 30 minutes from Pittsburgh airport.


July 14 (Tues.) - Flight 1485
San Francisco ---> Pittsburgh non-stop ($128 one-way) 

USAir Flight 1485 departs in San Francisco at 10:30 p.m. and arrives at 6:05 a.m. on July 15 (Wed.).  You can take the 7:20 a.m. AMTRAK to Altoona.  To get from Pittsburgh Airport to the AMTRAK station, take the 28X Airport Flyer bus from the airport ($2.60 exact change; dollar bills can be used but will not give change).  Get off at  7th Ave. & Smithfield St. and then walk 600 meters east on Liberty Ave. to the AMTRAK station.  The 28x Airport Flyer leave every 30 minutes from Pittsburgh Airport.

TRAIN / BUS INFORMATION

Altoona ----> Pittsburgh International Airport via AMTRAK & bus

For teams wishing to have their equipment vehicles and staff personnel leave for Cascade Classic immediately after the criterium, riders can take the AMTRAK to the airport from downtown Altoona. 
The AMTRAK train station is located right on the crit course about 200 meters from the start/finish.

AMTRAK runs a daily train from Altoona to Pittsburgh that departs at 5:06 p.m. (Mon. - Sun.).   Ticket cost is $18.  Tickets must be purchased online (www.amtrak.com, use station codes ALT to PGH).  The train arrives in Pittsburgh at 8:00 p.m.

After arriving at the Pittsburgh AMTRAK station, you would walk 600 meters west on Liberty Ave. to the bus stop located on 7th Ave. & Smithfield St. in front of Bruegger's Bagels.  Take the 28X Airport Flyer bus, which will drop you off right at the airport.   Bus fare is $2.60 (if you use dollar bills instead of coins you cannot get change).   Buses run every 30 minutes on the half hour until 11:00 p.m.   The bus trip to the airport takes 30 minutes.

If you plan to use the AMTRAK-BUS system, please keep in mind your earliest possible arrival time at Pittsburgh airport will be 9:07 p.m. (Mon - Sun.).  So don't schedule a departure flight out of Pittsburgh airport earlier than 10:00 p.m.

Note:  It is difficult to use the bus-AMTRAK system to go from Pittsburgh Airport to Altoona, since the AMTRAK train to Altoona leaves Pittsburgh only once a day at 7:00 a.m., which is too early for anything but a redeye flight into Pittsburgh.


Pittsburgh International Airport ----> Altoona via Greyhound Bus

Greyhound runs two daily buses from Pittsburgh to Altoona (departing at 8:45 a.m. and 1 p.m.).  The cost is $20.  You would have to take the 28X Airport Flyer bus ($2.60 fare, buses leave every 30 minutes) from the airport to the Greyhound bus terminal located at 55  11th Street in Pittsburgh.   You would exit the 28X Airport Flyer bus at the 7th Ave. & Smithfield St. stop, which is about 600 meters from the Greyhound terminal.

The bus arrives in Altoona 4 hours later at 1231 11th. Ave. in Altoona (located on the back-straight of the crit course.)
